Preparing for the Resurrection - first comes Good Friday

I was organizing the DVDs tonight and came across my copy of Mel Gibson's the Passion of the Christ. It is an extraordinary film, there is no other way to say it. I can still remember all the people with their popcorn at the start of the film in the theatres and it wasn't five minutes before the popcorn disappeared and you couldn't hear a crunch for the next two hours. Weeping, yes, but no crunching.

The producer of the CD "Songs Inspired by the Passion" (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001N9WFK/104-7277291-6995136?v=glance&n=5174) has talked about Bob Dylan viewing the film and then picking out "Not Dark Yet" to go on the CD. It reminds me that before we get to the Resurrection, we have to go through Good Friday.

"The Passion of the Christ" is all about Good Friday.

There are those who would prefer to skip Good Friday, to skip over that quiet Saturday and go straight to Easter. There are those who would prefer to leave the cross in the closet, gathering dust. But there is no resurrection without the cross. And there is no repentance, no reaffirmation, no rollback without the cross.

As we prepare for General Convention, we prepare for the hope of Resurrection. How that will look remains to be seen. But before we hit Sunday, we go through Friday. Before we sing our hallelujahs, we come to the foot of the cross and remember - we put Jesus on the cross, no one else. Those of us who call ourselves believers in Jesus, who profess to follow Him, we remember that before we come to the empty tomb, we stand at the foot of the cross.

bb: Amen and amen. We will know the Cross in the next 2 weeks but Easter is not far behind. As a former Virginia rector, I pray for you and the Virginia deputation,
as well as my own (new) dioces of Pittsburgh and my old one, Maine.
God bless. csalling
