Deputy Debate Regret - Sorry about the strain

Ft. Worth - Speaks in favor of the Resolution.

Minnesota - Speaks in favor, calls the bonds of affection "stretchy." Then makes a list of all the stretchy countries.

Lorne Coyle - Central Florida - Speaks in favor (Lorne was my rector in Newport, RI when I was in college). He says we should make this apology as a sign of our humilty and that this is an important first stitch in repairing the tear in the fabric of the Communion.

The next deputy doesn't support the resolution - I missed her name because I was talking to a photographer. Doesn't find it exceptable. Wants it rejected.

Eu Claire Deputy - favors A160 because the Communion members want to stay together.

Western Massachusetts - Because of actions in New Hampshire has brought us here, he says. He said a prayer was offered on the day that Gene Robinson was elected. That surprise was difficult to assorb. We are here, I think, to honor and deliberate that election and the Holy Spirit which works in confusion and chaos, but doesn't wish to vote on apologizing for the work of the Holy Spirit.

Goodness.

Deputy Marshall - from Albany - Had asked for rejected of resolutions in the pass. He strongly endorses the resolution.

Montona - Does not support expression of regret. Quotes Robert F. Kennedy. Doesn't think there should retreat - calls for being raised beyond regret. Wants to be ripples of hope.

30 Minutes have now passed. The motion for an ammendment is being recognized.

Ohio Deputy - Lines 10 and 11 to strike the words "reaching the proper constraints of" and replaced with "straining". So it would read: "express its regret for breaching the proper constraints of (replace with "strain") the bonds of affection in the events surrounding the General Convention of 2003 and the consequences which followed." She doesn't think there has been any big deal and it's a climate of fear.

Warner is now looking for a deputy to speak to the amendment. El Camino Real Deputy (very liberal diocese) speaks in favor of the resolution.

New Jersey Deputy - also supports resolution that weakens the language. We're sorry for the strain - the true regret is that there's been no dialogue. Doesn't want to dimimish the great things ECUSA has done.

Central Florida - Clark - Calls for rejection the amendment and commends the Special Committee. Love does mean saying you're sorry.

Another Deputy offers an amendment to the amendment - it is in order - it's coming from Wyoming. The amendment to strike after 2003 to line 15 "as we seek to live into deeper levels ... ooops, it's decided that a brand new amendment and she has to step aside for now.

Another Deputy speaks in favor of the amanedment - she's from New York - she did not receive the memo what the proper constraints or bonds are (wow, that was rather mean-spirited barb) - thinks we'll regret the Windsor Report and finds that language dangerous.

Northern Indiana - speaks against amendment and retain original language.

Warner wants to know who is speaking to the amendment. Several deputies are ready to speak to the amendment. My mind is going numb. Time for a fireball.

Next Deputy - no broken communion. Sorry about the strain - that's what this amendment say. Sorry about the Strain.
