Debate Begins on A161

The Special Committee is now making the case for A161. One member says that it's this is "working through denial" so that space will be given for the rest of the church to come around to the American way - and speaks to "refrain from" wording and is going on and on about the suffering gays will endure in this resolution. But it's so full of holes, I'm not sure what she's talking about. Each of the Special Committee keeps mentioning all the phrases that do not comply with Windsor, including "refrain from" and "manner of life," but so far haven't mentioned the last two resolves.

Michael Howell is not permitted to speak to this resolution. There has been a request for two mics (pro and against). A161 is now before the entire house.

30 Mintues are allotted for debate.

Warner is trying to find out who to call on first.

Sam Gould - official Youth Presense - speaks out against the Resolution. He thinks it speaks to two contradictory resolves. Does not understand how both resolves could be in the resolution. Tells a story about being a camp counselor. Something about climbing rocks. Thinks that there should be no apology for Robinson's consecration so why pass this?

Louisiana - In favor of the resolution

Werner calls for quiet in the House.

Massachusetts - Troubled by the first resolve. She was one of the candidates for Diocese of California Bishop. Rejects the first resolve.

Anotehr Louisanna - In favor of the resolution. Thinks Communion and Sacraments are acts of the whole church. Autonomy is not a church principle. Wants to put unity first. All belong to one church.

Idaho - Wants defeat of the resolution - doesn't think ECUSA should stop doing anything. Thinks that this is just like women's ordination, doesn't want to limit anyone in any order of the church.

Central Florida - Ft. Worth, Tennessee, South Carolina, Central Florida - vote by orders is requested and is accepted. This means that each diocese will vote and it will be on the record.

San Diego - Three and Four do not agree with One. Does not think ECUSA should apologize for anything that has been done. Does not think the house should flinch an inch.

Northern Indiana - Believes God is in charge of ECUSA and that God is leading the church and what happens here will not deny God's love despite with what we do even as we deal with mysteries and there are no easy answers and will offend everyone and trust all the body and does favor passing this resolution because it was crafted by those who trust in the mystery - says it does not deny Robinson's ministry (he did get that part right).

There appears to be problems with their electronic queing - the debate will continue until 7:00 p.m. and then it will resume tomorrow. Werner thinks that people should caucus together and figure out who will speak to the pros and cons rather than everyone speaking.

Western Lousiana - Peter Cook - Long denial denial - The resolution gives a non-response response. No assurance that we won't do this again, the apology rings more true to the gays and lesbians than the ones we give to the Anglican Communion. This resolution will not allow us to remain members of the world-wide Anglican family.

Still having electronic queing issues.

Trying to figure out who is "yes" and who is "no."
