The Diocese of Virginia resolutions before Council (Jan. 22-24) next week are now up and there are a few - from the usual suspects - that are a pip. Check them out here. More info to come.

A pip indeed. I have to wonder if the proposed Resolution #5 is bidirectional, protecting those Priests who hold the orthodox view on marriage? Or, is this just a cudgel to enforce 815's reinterpretation of marriage?

What's also interesting is how few Resolutions are there. Could it be there are others waiting to be sprung at the convention - so that they do not arouse the ire of those who might otherwise view them ahead of time???

R4: Blessedness of Covenanted Relationships

Resolved, that it is the mind of the 214th Annual Council of the Diocese of Virginia that “the diocesan model for sexual intimacy,” previously affirmed by the 209th and 199th Annual Councils of this Diocese, which held that “the normative context for sexual intimacy is lifelong, heterosexual, monogamous marriage,” has become limiting in its continuing application in this Diocese, and the changing context of today’s Church has made it increasingly important to respond to the pastoral needs of the Diocese’s faithful gay and lesbian members in an appropriate spirit of love, compassion, respect and justice;

and, be it further
Resolved,

that accordingly the 214th Annual Council of the Diocese of Virginia affirms and recognizes the inherent blessedness and holiness of all committed covenanted relationships between two adult persons, regardless of whether those relationships are between a man and a woman, a man and a man or a woman and a woman, when those relationships are (as described in Resolution D-39 of the 79th General Convention of the Episcopal Church) “characterized by fidelity, monogamy, mutual affection and respect, careful, honest communication, and the holy love which enables those in such relationships to see in each other the image of God.”

"Resolved, that the 214th Annual Council of the Diocese of Virginia, meeting in Reston, Virginia in January 2009, reaffirms a continuing intention to remain an active part of both the (Protestant) Episcopal Church (in the United States of America) and the Anglican Communion; and be it further

Resolved, that the Annual Council reaffirms its belief that, to quote the Windsor Report, “the duty of pastoral care . . . is laid upon all Christians to respond with love and understanding to people of all sexual orientations.”

That seems to say it all- we will be members of the Anglican Communion because WE say so, and we will bless same sex unions if WE want to, and the rest of the Windsor report doesn't really matter. Lambeth 1.10? Well, that is just sooooo 20th century, you know?

Interesting Budget 09 factoids:

New Missions Budget = $0
Mission Church Support < 08

Bishops > 08
Bishops Staff < 08

Bishops as a % of 09 budget = <13%
Youth as a % if 09 budget = <6%
Missions & Church Planting = >14%
