"President-elect Obama has again demonstrated his genuine commitment to bringing all Americans of goodwill together in search of common ground. I applaud his desire to be the president of every citizen."

Actually, what has been a topic of conversation at our Cafe table today regarding this Sunday's concert at the Lincoln Memorial (and yes, BabyBlue plans to be there - snow and all) is when was the last time we saw a public rock 'n roll concert (including the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Beyonce, Bono, Garth Brooks, Herbie Hancock and Sheryl Crow among others) open with prayer?

Listened to the NPR interview with Bishop Robinson ... interviewer asked him if he had been invited in order to balance the criticisms of Warren's selection. He said no, he ws being invited because Obama wants to have many voices involved. To her credit the interviewer followed up and asked again, about the timing of the invitation and didn't that show his attendance was a make-up call for the angry folk who had complained about Warren. Again he said no, his invitation must have been in the works because after all he was a very early supporter of Obama in new Hampshire which was critical (though I recall he lost in NH) and that he had been an advisor to Obama on a number of issues.
What gets tiresome is not heresy. That, like the poor, has been with us always. I can do something about heresy. As a pastor I work with a lot of people who are still fidning their way into faith in Jesus and need help understanding what faith means. But a lot of them are teachable. The people I have a harder time with are those who have no humility ... they are right, they know they are right, for no other reason than they know it ... It takes a lot of patience to work against the sin of pride.
With the bishop, it seems like the work is insurmountable. Kind of like the level of pride at work.
So I wonder, if Pastor Warren will also be praying to the God of our many understandings, or if he will be so less understanding by praying to the one God, who is Lord of Lords. You know, it would be just like him to do that.
Hope you can keep warm and keep your cool both during the big event. Blessings.
