Bishop Bob Duncan expected to return as Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh

Following the October 4 vote of Diocesan Convention to realign with the Anglican Province of the Southern Cone, the Rev. David Wilson, president of the Standing Committee, announced that a special convention would be held on November 7 for the purpose of electing a diocesan bishop and conducting necessary business.

The special convention will be open to all deputies and observers, and will be conducted at the Marriott City Center, with registration running from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. The convention itself will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., with the primary task of electing a bishop to fill the position vacant since Bishop Robert Duncan’s purported deposition by the Episcopal Church on September 18. It is expected that Bishop Duncan will be asked to return to his role as chief shepherd of the Diocese of Pittsburgh.

In a fitting alignment of events, this special convention will be held within the context of the previously announced "Moving Forward in Mission" Consultation. A post-convention social and banquet, to which all are invited, will kick off "Moving Forward in Mission". The Rev. Mike Breen, well known expert in building dynamic, mission-based church communities, will speak in the course of the evening, with the night being rounded out with entertainment and Compline. Rooms at the Marriott are available at a special event rate of $99 for anyone who wishes to remain downtown in anticipation of the next morning’s event schedule.

Saturday, November 8, will begin at Trinity Cathedral, downtown, with a time of Scripture teaching and Morning Prayer at 8:30 a.m. Bishop Robert Duncan will then deliver a keynote address titled "A Vision for Mission" at 9 a.m. Following Bishop Duncan’s address, two tracks of seminars will be offered to participants, one examining mission-shaped communities, and the other taking a look at life-shaped ministries. The Rev. Mike Breen will be a featured presenter at these free sessions. Lunch will be available for seminar attendees, and the day will wrap up with a time of worship at 3:30 p.m.
