LATER: Looks like we have fans of Eva Cassidy here at the Cafe. So - in case there are more fans in the wings - here's another gem, a rendition of Sting's "Fields of Gold" that even he says is the best:

Thanks for the Eva Cassedy. Her tragic story makes this and her other renditions even more poignant than they would otherwise be. I would like to think that she died in faith and is waiting in sleep "somewhere over the rainbow" to rise with the sheep on that great and glorious day.

How odd a coincidence -- I was just listening to Eva Cassidy earlier today as I was copying music to take back to Africa with me. What an awesome voice she had. Her "Songbird" is such an amazing CD. And yes, as Walter wrote, how tragic that so much of her "success" only came after her death.

I first heard about Eva a few years ago and collected her recordings. Her rendition of Sting's "Fields of Gold" even Sting considers the best version. Her voice - from standards, to pop, to the blues could convey a depth of insight and emotion, perhaps stemmed from her suffering. There is such "truth" in her music. I'm glad there are other fans here at the Cafe. In fact, I think I'll go ahead post "Fields of Gold" in case there are new fans out there just waiting to be made ...
