The people, not the steeple

Here's a photo (click on it for larger version) taken in 2004 when the proprietor of the BabyBlueCafe was reaffirmed an Anglican at Truro Church in Fairfax by Lord Cary, 103rd Archbishop of Canterbury. The official certificate signed by Lord Carey said that those reaffirmed are members of the one holy catholic and apostolic church. That's it. The Church is the people, not the steeple.

A lesson that not many inside various buildings seem to understand. It seems more like an affinity like to a university or job -- people come people go but seemingly greater loyalty to a structure, all of which will remain to crumble, but Church will be with Jesus forever.

Very timely BB. It's easy at times to get caught up in the Bells and Smells and be awestruck by architecture.

It's not the steeple, Baby Blue, but it's far more than the people -- even from an Anglican viewpoint. (Equating it solely with the people is a more low-church view than even Anglicanism allows.) But we've had this discussion before. :)
