What's the real thing?

Who remembers this commercial? Ever wondered why you still remember it?

Wow,
Is this a group shot of the incoming congress?

You know, the commercial does "date" me a bit, though I was a mere nine or ten years old when it came out. Congress - now there's a thought.

Well, one of the reasons we remember it is that ONCE YOU HEAR THE SONG YOU CAN'T GET IT OUT OF YOUR MIND! I've now been humming the stupid tune at odd moments for the past 24 hours!!! "Thanks" BB (NOT)!!! LOL.

But, I freely admit, it serves as a GREAT lead-in to what you posted today about Alpha...

Am I correct in remembering that Truro was the first parish in the US to offer Alpha (or at least host the first US Alpha conference?)

BTW, given your reflections on Jesus as the real thing, make sure to go read what NT WRIGHT has said in an interview with Christianity Today.

There is one quote that is particularly stunning and fantastic and fits in VERY well with what you've posted today:

And that’s the apologist’s dilemma, that if you simply address the God-shaped blank that people think they’ve got, the God you end up with is the God shaped by the blank. The real God specializes in taking the blanks in people’s lives and pulling and tugging and turning them into a new shape.

And this:

In other words, don't assume that you've got God taped, and fit Jesus into that. Do it the other way. We all come with some ideas of God. Allow those ideas to be shaped around Jesus. That is the real challenge of New Testament Christology.

Amen. Have a great weekend sis.
