Johnston Elected Bishop Coadjutor for the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia

Breaking News: The Rev. Shannon Johnston has been elected by the Diocesan Council as Bishop Coadjutor of the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia.

Earlier: Right now it looks like The Very Rev. Shannon S. Johnston is leading. He was described to me by a one of the clergy here as a "a presentable revisionist." He is also the youngest candidate.

The Rev. Canon Irwin M. "Win" Lewis just dropped out. The Third Ballot results should come in shortly. Stay tuned.

bb, why do you care who the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia elects as bishop or otherwise? Haven't you disassociated yourself with the Episcopal Church and aligned with the Anglican church in Nigeria? It seems to me, by your very public vote as a parishioner, and correct me if I'm wrong, as a member of the vestry, you have quite effectively brushed the dust from your sandals on your way out the door of the Episcopal Church. Why concern yourself now with what the ECUSA does? Or are you simply hoping for more cheer leading opportunities (is it 11, or is it 15 congregations going on how many? Hip hip hooray!), or wondering how developments at the diocesan level will effect the coming litigation? From your post it sounds like perhaps you are at/were at Diocesan Council. In what capacity are/were you there, as an emissary or missionary of the Nigerian church? Surely you don't imagine yourself a member (and on the vestry) of Truro Church, Episcopal, do you?

And what on earth is meant by a "presentable revisionist"? Trinity = YES; Virgin Birth = Not so sure ???

Sorry for nothing but questions, but I know nothing about the man, but your interest raises questions it seems to me.

Hello Eddo:

Probably because this election is determining how things will go with the current unpleasantness. That's the selfish reason. Also there is still emotions for those you leave, hopefully you wish them the best.

Baby Blue's usual capacity at GC is as a journalist, these are open meeting with observers, there are some close door sessions. You are correct, she'd have the same voice as a Methodist, but there's nothing stopping a UMC person from attending (maybe I might question their sanity). I do not know her official role here, but it's very smart to observe things first hand and talk to friends, because it undoes spin when you've actually had someone observe events.

I'm more optimist than BB about Johnston, when I first read all the bio's I thought that he had no chance, when I read the three questions I was sure he had no chance. I guess I believe too much spin, because the most his answers were pretty traditional and actually gave some risk of position (Dannals' answers may be very orthodox, in a Griswald sort of way, so they could also be very much like the former PB as well).

The interest is real easy, +Lee will probably retire long before all the property issues are settled.

Blessing to you till next time,
Kevin

Hey Mary,

Thanks for the updates -- Like Kevin indicates, although we are no longer a formal part of the TEC, we still have the ties with our brothers and sisters who worship and toil there. It may be hard for Eddo and others to realize, but we do recognize and admire those who are strong of faith in the TEC. Just because we have walked apart, it doesn't mean that our love is gone.

It is my prayer and will always be my prayer that the leadership of TEC will return to the first love -- Christ Jesus.
