From the Mailbox: Bishop Lee and Bishop Minns Exchange Letters

BB NOTE: These letters were exchanged by Bishop Peter James Lee and Bishop Martyn Minns. It began as a simple request to transfer the clergy from the Diocese of Virginia to CANA, but Bishop Lee also included some rather erroneous misstatements and accusations that bare no similarity to the truth (I know, I'm a witness). Bishop Minns responds, expressing not only his deep concerns about Bishop Lee's statements, but also to clarify the truth of the situation at hand.

Check out the conversation over here at TitusOneNine.

Yeah, +Lee letter is the talk to my lawyer letter. I don't know why but my field is "litigant happy" with contact disputes, personal & property damage claims, so I know the +Lee letter. I'm unsure how much the +Minns' letter has an effect in that environment, scores PR points, but unknown in the other context.

T19 #15 "UK" has a brilliant point, I wonder if ++Akinola wrote the letter for transfer to Nigeria what would happen.

Dear +Lee,

I cordially ask for the transfer of the following clergy:

X, Y, z

To work in a new mission outreach of the Church of Nigeria.

Your faithful Servant in Christ,
++Akinola

Short sweat, to the point and a recognized part of the AC at the table in February.

Peter Lee's reasons for foot-dragging on clergy transfer may be part of the overall legal strategy. Clergy who are former-TEC are harder to discipline, whereas those still in TEC could face any number of disciplinary actions. Just speculating, perhaps the diocese means to defrock them all, then argue that the "dissident" parishes are not staffed by lawfully ordained ministers. If I were on the vestry of any of these parishes, I would look into staffing up with at least one ordained priest outside the jurisdiction of Peter Lee or TEC.

You're asking the power-hungry to give their coveted building away? Think about it. In the case of Truro, the Warden is setting his buddy Martyn up for the thrown. They want the Anglican (African) title without giving up the control. They never should have affiliated with TEC in the first place. I know them both, and I can assure you they should just start their own extremist brand of Christianity. All of this shifting and positioning is just dizzying. Oakes and Minns should walk and save the U.S. taxpayers on this losing court battle they are about to undertake.

Your logic is confused. This would be a private between parties, thus no Commonwealth Attorney. I REALLY think you do not understand Anglican ecclesiology with the relationship of a Senior Warden and Rector or a bishop. A whole lot of noise and what few point you try to make you make just show your ignorance about ecclesiastical and civil structures.
