Remembering December 7, 1941

My grandfather was on the U.S.S. Honolulu moored in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on that morning of December 7, 1941.  As the bombs fell, my grandmother packed up my grandfather and their two boys and drove to the YMCA in downtown Honolulu where she said goodbye to my grandfather who rushed to the ship to take it out to sea before it was sunk.  Then she took her two young sons, which included my dad and went up to the hills near Tantalus Drive where a cousin lived and from that position watched as the day that would live in infamy unfolded and the United States entered World War II.
