Debate Continues on Tuesday Morning

The House is now making decisions about what to do next. Motions can now be made. Fifteen more minutes of debate. It will take a while to do that, Werner said. Werner asked if this is a good moment to go for 40 more minutes? Taking a vote right now. The House wants to break at this point.

Fort Worth - Deputy is up at the mic wanting to speak. Is asking if he can speak first in the morning. Cantrell is the Deputy at the mic.

Werner is now recognzing another deputy talking about how to order the deputies who want to speak.

Deputy of Georgia - Questioning Special Orders decision.

Deputy from Ft. Worth - Procedure Motion to get on the floor.

Next Deputy - Asking about the procedures.

Werner doesn't have a clear order for deputies to speak.

Cantrell and Harmon told the chair that they wanted to put in substitution and let the chair know about it. So Werner knows about the substitution.

Next Deputy - Asking about evening session tonight and tomorrow night and asking if there was the opportunity to take a break and return for dinner.

Albany Deputy - Questions this new process of "yes" and "no" and alternate microphones and issues of fairness. Why not have two microphones - one pro and one against - and sometimes people would switch and offers that to do that here. Werner says there is now a real problem.

Next Deputy - If more folks who voted no might have actually voted yes.

Warner says they are going to stay here all night discussing the discussion.

Warner is now talking about what has happened in the past three years, the complex matter. Thinks there should be a longer pause, silence, chance to talk together and then come back together in the morning.

Next Deputy from Newark - ask the chair whether this resolution is out of order because it is Canon 312 because it urges committees to discriminate and also in violation 316.1 urges use discrimination etc. etc.

Werner tells the Deputy she is out of order but what like to talk about it.

Deputy moves that the House be in recess. The newsroom just voted aye.

DEBATE CONTINUES ON TUESDAY. STAY TUNED.

Thanks for keeping us up to date. Many of the other sites have crashed due to the traffic. While I understand the need and probably the wisdom of cooling off period and to restart Tuesday morning, I wish that this were over. I worry about how this is going to end. Then again will it make any difference? What does the TEC need to do to have the rest of the Communion say goodbye?
There is good evidence to believe that there are enough moderate voices in the Anglican Communion to keep TEC within the fold no matter how outrageous the behaviour.

The BBC is calling the presiding bishop HURRICANE KATHERINE! Fantastic name. Here's the link:
