A163 - DEPO on Deputies Floor
The Deputies are discussing DEPO right now on the floor of the House. Once again, General Convention is arguing over something that is out of context. GC has not yet made the decisions of where the church stands regarding the critical issues regarding the Windsor Report. How can we have a vote on something that it's not clear yet will be needed? How far will the church go from Anglican biblical teaching will have a lot to do with what sort of DEPO is needed - if it's needed at all. As it stands, the DEPO created by the House of Bishops misses the point entirely. You don't put the cat in charge of the fishbowl - no matter how nice the cat may be.
Kendall just spoke on the floor. The tragedy of DEPO is that it's a process that doesn't work. It is widely regarded as inadquate and needs strengthening. The House of Bishops has failed the church by its new process called DEPO, Kendall said, in that it's controlled by the very overseers from whom relief is sought.
DEPO works when "bishops" are consulted," Kendall quoted a bishop as saying. But it's not all about bishops - the very people whom DEPO affects, the priests and laity, aren't even consulted or a part of the process.
