The often trite lyrics ("Well life is for love/And they say that love is blind") sometimes take an inventive turn ("If you want to live easy/Baby pack your clothes with mine"). But only rarely do they veer off into the wild. "I'm a-listening to Billy Joe Shaver," he sings—we're still in the same song, "Feel a Change Coming On"—"and I'm reading James Joyce/Some people they tell me I've got the Blood of the Lamb in my voice."Interesting.
From the new album, Together Through Life:
I feel a change coming on
and the fourth part of the day is all ready gone.
I'm a-listening to Billy Joe Shaver
And I'm reading James Joyce
Some people they tell me
I've got the blood of the land in my voice
-Dylan
Blood of the Land? Blood of the Lamb? Eerie. He's done that before, you know, in Not Dark Yet when he wrote:
Feel like my soul has turned into steel
I've still got the scars that the sun didn't heal
I've still got the scars that the sun - that the Son - didn't heal.
