Title IV Revisions Unmasked

As Kendall says, read it all carefully.  The most alarming thing about this - and there are many - are the new powers given to the Presiding Bishop.  She is not an archbishop - she is a presiding bishop and her job is to preside, pick up the gavel and call the meeting to order.  Every diocesan bishop should think very long and very hard about this.  They are being replaced by ad hoc self-appointed insider committees created by the Presiding Bishop's office - as we saw in spades at the last General Convention.  Diocesan Bishops?  You can dress them up - but can you take them anywhere?  The true liberals in fact should be alarmed.

On the other hand, perhaps Princess Leia was right after all - something to consider, though watching another Alderaan blow is not a pleasant thought.

Unfortunately the bishops are looking for love in Alderaan places.

More seriously, authoritarians who come to power without violence always do so with the acquiescence of most, and the active support by some. See The Totalitarian Temptation by Revel.

Best pun of the year, above. Even if it is not original (I hope it is) it is priceless and brightened my morning. I'll smile all day when I think of that.

I must say, that while I agree with the post on what the proper functions of the PB are and should be, I am somewhat surprised by the continuing interest people from other denominations have in the internal politics and polity of TEC.

worry not....revisionists are merely managing their final extinction......only 1 in 400 Americans turn up on a Sunday to hear whatever they talk about....1 in 400 and falling......let them change all the rules, it will not avert the terminal decline caused by false teaching

My thought as well:

"I am somewhat surprised by the continuing interest people from other denominations have in the internal politics and polity of TEC."

This is merely part of the final death spiral.

No surprise there. There are still people squatting on Episcopal property.

john...just like tec has been squatting on revisionism/liberalism/gnosticism/spong-ism?

i'll take squatting on property over the latter...

As we know, this is a cafe and all are welcome - the conversation is on these revisions of Title IV, not on who is sitting at the table.

TEC = the Church of Orwell's Animal Farm

but you already knew that.

Frightening. After rereading the essay, I was struck by the totalitarian overtones of this. Not only that, but the seed change from objective, measurable violations to a subjective feel that puts the interpretation in the hands of the PB.

Succinctly, the beatings will continue until morale improves...
