I cannot tell you how that has spoiled what had been a wonderful story for me.
Why in the world did Rowling have to announce that? Weren't the stories good enough before? If people's minds wanted to go in that direction, was there anything to prevent that? Likewise, if people's minds are not bent in that direction, did it ruin the story to NOT have a gay character?
I've written on the Rowling Revelation now on the post above this one. When reading literature, one of the things we love to do is "contrast and compare" and I'm not sure Jo Rowling thought this completely through (or may be she did?) before making the revelation. Remember, it isn't what you are that matters, but what you do with who you are - choices. While there are those who might say that it is unwise to open the whole sexuality debate to children, the Harry Potter books are not just for children. And if opening up the debate means putting Dumbledore's life in a context, I am not sure this is bad news for Christians. Having sat through enough testimonies of gay Episicopalians at General Convention recounting their idealized and blessed relationships, Dumbledore's "relationship" will indeed be a revelation, but perhaps not the one that is an tribue to the lifestyle. Dumbledore chooses a different path than "liberation" and suffers greatly for his obsession. Contrast that with Harry and his relationship with his future wife Ginny. The differences - and what we learn from them - are life's lessons.

I never realized how much Spock looks like Martyn before today. Thanks for the laugh.
Fascinating...
(Sorry, I couldn't resist)
Breaking news! Dumbledore is gay according to JK Rowling!

Anyone want to buy a used set of Harry Potter?
